Edit Your Recordings
Remove mistakes, trim dead air, and rearrange sections in your Mont recordings
You've finished recording, but there's a cough in the middle, dead air at the start, or you want to move a section. This tutorial covers the three most common edits.
What You Need
- A Mont project with at least one recording
- Mont in editing mode (toggle at top of screen)
Remove a Mistake
The most common edit: cutting out something you said wrong.
The pattern: Split → Delete → Close the Gap
- Find the mistake in the timeline
- Hold S and click just before the mistake starts
- Hold S and click just after the mistake ends
- Click the middle span (the mistake) to select it
- Press Delete or Backspace
- Drag the remaining spans together to close the gap
Checkpoint: Play back the edit. The mistake should be gone, with the audio continuing smoothly.
Practice This
The split-delete pattern is the most useful editing skill. Do it a few times on test content until it feels natural.
Find any span, split it twice, delete the middle, close the gap. Repeat.
Trim the Beginning or End
Recordings often have awkward pauses at the start ("um, okay, so...") or extra content at the end.
To trim the beginning:
- Hover over the left edge of the span until the cursor changes
- Drag inward to shorten
- Release when you've removed the dead air
To trim the end:
- Hover over the right edge
- Drag inward
- Release
Checkpoint: Play from the start. The video should begin where you want it to.
Rearrange Sections
Sometimes you recorded sections out of order, or you want to move a conclusion earlier.
To move a section:
- Click and hold the span you want to move
- Drag left or right to the new position
- Release
Spans automatically shift to make room—they won't overlap.
Checkpoint: Play through the rearranged section to make sure the flow makes sense.

If Something Goes Wrong
Accidentally deleted the wrong span? Press Cmd/Ctrl + Z to undo. You can undo multiple times.
Can't find the split cursor? Make sure you're holding S before clicking. The cursor should change when you're over a span.
Spans won't close the gap? Drag them manually. Select a span and drag it to the left to close gaps.
