Export and Upload to YouTube

Get your Mont video onto YouTube with the best quality

beginner ⏱ 8

You've finished your video in Mont. Here's how to get it onto YouTube.

Step 1: Export Your Video

  1. Click Export in the toolbar
  2. Choose where to save the file
  3. Name it descriptively (e.g., "Module-1-Introduction.mp4")
  4. Wait for export to complete

Export takes roughly 1-3x the video duration. A 10-minute video might take 10-30 minutes to export.

Before exporting: Play through your entire project once to catch any issues. Fixing problems before export saves time.

Step 2: Upload to YouTube

  1. Go to YouTube Studio
  2. Click CreateUpload videos
  3. Select your exported .mp4 file
  4. While uploading, fill in:
    • Title: Descriptive, include keywords
    • Description: Summarize the video, add timestamps for sections
    • Thumbnail: Upload a custom image (1280×720 pixels)
  5. Set visibility to Unlisted initially (so you can review before going public)

Step 3: Wait and Verify

YouTube re-processes every video. This takes time.

  1. Wait 15-30 minutes after upload completes
  2. Check that 1080p appears in the quality options
  3. Watch a few sections to verify quality
  4. Change visibility to Public when satisfied

Common issue: Video looks blurry right after upload. This is normal—YouTube is still processing. Check back in 30 minutes.

Quick Tips

Don't re-compress your video. Upload the file Mont exported directly. Every additional compression pass reduces quality.

Custom thumbnails matter. Auto-generated thumbnails rarely look good. Create one with clear text readable at small sizes.

Add timestamps to descriptions. Viewers appreciate being able to jump to specific sections. Format: 0:00 Introduction

If Something Looks Wrong

Text is blurry? This usually means font sizes were too small when recording. For future videos, use 18pt+ fonts.

Audio sounds different? YouTube normalizes audio levels. Keep your original audio in the green zone during recording to minimize changes.

Only 360p available? YouTube is still processing. Wait 30 minutes to an hour, then refresh.

File Size Reference

Duration Approximate Size
5 minutes ~200 MB
10 minutes ~400 MB
30 minutes ~1.2 GB

Plan upload time accordingly, especially on slower connections.
